We all know that smoke alarms save lives. So why is it that so many of us either do not have a smoke alarm or we do not know if it even works. I have to be totally honest in saying that I myself have not tested my smoke alarms this year to see if they work.

All it takes is a couple of minutes of your time. You just have to press the TEST button and that’s it.

This test should be conducted every 6 months. And depending on your smoke alarm, you will also need to replace the battery when it is reaching the end of its life cycle. Most smoke alarms have a 9V battery, that should be replaced every year. This will ensure that if there is a fire, the alarm will actually work and alert you that there is a fire.

Sydney Smoke Alarms together with our parent company Hall & Hedderman Pty Ltd install, service and maintain smoke alarms for Strata Management, Real estate agents, Body corporate and property owners across the Sydney metropolitan area.

The NSW Building Legislation Amendment (Smoke Alarms) Bill 2005 states that all existing residential properties must have either battery operated or hard wired smoke alarms installed.

So if you have not already tested your smoke alarm, please get up now and test it. It could save your life.

For any more information please feel free to contact us either by phone on 1300 138 881 or email us at info@sydneysmokealarms.com.au
